Amonkhet's First Magic: The Gathering God Card Revealed

The next Magic: The Gathering set Amonkhet will feature god cards just as Theros did, but this time they're Egyptian-inspired and unlike Theros that requires Devotion to enable them to attack or block, the new ones have other conditions. Mark Rosewater, the co-lead designer of Amonkhet, revealed the first Amonkhet god card and expained the big tweak in the latest article from Wizards of the Coast:

"Instead of being a creature conditionally, Hazoret can only attack or block conditionally," Rosewater wrote. "Being that attacking and blocking is a big part of what a creature can do, especially creatures as big as the Gods, it's similar in nature while being a little easier to understand."

This card will most likely see play in aggressive decks, and I think it will be playable in Standard. It won't be that hard to enable Hazoret to attack when you're consistently dropping cards in the early game; plus, its ability to shoot your opponent by discarding also helps. This could also help enable trigger cards with Madness.

Amonkhet, the first set of the Amonkhet block, will be released on April 28. Prerelease events will take place on April 22-23, 2017.
