Rebel Moon’s Kora has a dark past which is revealed in more detail in Part 2. As shown even in Part 1, Kora is remorseful of her past actions. So, was Kora from Rebel Moon brainwashed during her time in the Imperium?
While Part 2 of Zack Snyder’s epic space opera follows Kora as she prepares to defend Veldt from Motherworld, it also gives us more insight into her past as well as how she copes with those events.

All You Need to Know About Kora’s Journey in Rebel Moon
Kora is the protagonist of Rebel Moon, and she was initially introduced as a farmer in the backwater moon of Veldt. There, a Motherworld admiral Atticus Noble orders the farmers to sell their grain.
After departing, Noble promises to return when the villagers are able to harvest the grain. Given Kora’s past with the Imperium, she tells the villagers that Noble will massacre them when he gets back.
Thus begins Kora’s journey to gather warriors to defend the Veldt. During Part 1, Kora reveals that she originally served the Imperium.
During her time in the Imperium, Kora became the bodyguard of the Motherworld princess Issa, though Kora was unable to protect Issa as the royal family was arrested.

What Happened to Kora After Rebel Moon Part 1?
By the end of Rebel Moon Part 1, Kora was able to gather allies to defend Veldt. In the process, Kora also manages to kill Atticus Noble.
The Motherworld has learned about these events as they were able to recover Noble’s corpse and resurrect him.
Now, Noble receives instructions from Balisarius, the leader of the Motherworld, to bring Kora to him alive so he can execute her.

Was Kora Brainwashed in Rebel Moon? Part 2 Reveals More of Her Past
Aside from showing the defense of Veldt, the second part of Rebel Moon also goes deeper into Kora’s past, revealing that she has committed evil acts in service of the Imperium.
In a recent interview, Kora’s actress Sofia Boutella shared that she had conversations with director Zack Snyder about the concept of Kora being brainwashed.
To be exact, Boutella mentioned that Kora was brainwashed by the people around her in the Imperium to commit heinous acts in the guise of doing the right thing.
