Warner Bros. In Talks with Amazon for Major DC Animation Deal

With the new leadership under Warner Bros. Discovery and the recent hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the heads of the newly-established DC Studios, the future of the DCU is expected to have some major changes in the coming years as they're making all of its film, TV, animated, and video game projects cohesive in one franchise.

However, it looks like its upcoming animated projects will set afoot on a new home as Deadline has reported that Warner Bros. Television is currently closing a major DC animated content deal with Amazon. It was revealed by its president Channing Dungey at the Content London conference.

"With animation, we used to be about staying in-house but now we are doing it on different platforms," she said. "HBO Max is the first stop but we are in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon featuring DC branded content in animation."

Dungey didn't reveal more details about the specific details or whether all DC animated projects will automatically go to Amazon Prime Video except that the talk has been ongoing for two years.

Ever since Warner Bros. Discovery's leadership of the studio started, there have been questions about the future of its animation projects, especially with the cancellation of some of the projects that were airing or supposed to air on HBO Max.

One of its animated projects that got axed and looking for a new home right now is Batman: Caped Crusader. So far, the project hasn't landed a new home yet although this new deal might suggest that it will now be heading to Amazon Prime Video.

We also know that Gunn and Safran are planning more animated projects as part of the DCU and there is a likelihood now that they are going to be part of this deal which would mean that it won't be on HBO Max which houses most of the DC projects.

Since the negotiations of their deal are still ongoing, we should be hearing more details about this in the coming weeks or months, especially the specifics in terms of the titles that are heading to the platform as a result of the deal.
