It's been a long time coming but we're finally here. A new era in the DC Universe has officially commenced as James Gunn and Peter Safran begin work as co-heads of the recently-rebranded DC Studios. As it stands, the long-term plans for the franchise have not been laid out yet but it would be safe to say that 2023 is when we'll start experiencing some changes.

The DC and Marvel filmmaker has been pretty vocal about his excitement about his new executive role and unsurprisingly, so is the fandom. To many, Gunn is the best guy to help rebuild the DCU from the ground up, and being given the keys by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is a huge step in achieving it.

On Twitter, James celebrated his first day as one of DC Studios' leaders by posting a comic panel featuring none other than the Man of Steel himself, who recently made his jaw-dropping live-action comeback to the big screen. The panel reads: "Got to restrain myself... or I may absent-mindedly punch this typewriter into twisted wreckage!"

Gunn captioned the tweet with the following: "First day, new job." Check it out here:

Now, does it mean Gunn will actually helm Man of Steel 2? Not entirely, but the idea isn't exactly out of the question. If anything, Gunn's tweet is a clear indication that we'll see more of Superman in the "new" DC Universe which is a huge win for fans who have long been deprived of a proper Man of Steel.

Meanwhile, DC's Black Adam is still screening in cinemas worldwide.
