There's no denying that WandaVision is one of the most controversial Marvel Cinematic Universe projects in recent memory and a lot of the initial negative feedback surrounding it had something to do with the show taking on a completely different approach in terms of its presentation which wasn't the norm when it came to Marvel Studios' usual offerings. However, being different ultimately paid off for the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany series and WandaVision became a hit.

Apparently, it wasn't just the fans who were initially bewildered by the show adapting elements of an American sitcom. According to the brilliant minds behind the MCU series, the writers also questioned WandaVision's format and admitted that they felt the show didn't need to be presented as a sitcom.

Participating in a virtual roundtable interview with the Producers Guild of America, Kevin Feige, Jac Schaeffer, and Matt Shakman opened up about the skepticism the writers had about the show. Feige explained: "The biggest challenge was finding collaborators who were excited by the challenge. The truth is, Jac [Schaeffer] was working on Black Widow at the time. We were having other meetings, and there came a point, I don't remember exactly how many meetings it was — maybe three or four or five meetings with other writers — and a number of them were saying, 'You know, we really love those two characters. But the sitcom. Do you need the sitcom element? What if you lost the sitcom element? Maybe that might focus it in.'"

Thankfully, all three stuck to their guns and didn't let the initial doubt affect the show's overall presentation. Personally, I'm a huge fan of what they did with the series because it was something fresh and unique and I think I speak for a lot of Marvel fans when I say that a potential second season of WandaVision would be a treat to see. I know it's intended to be a limited series but there's still time to have a change of heart.

WandaVision is available for streaming on Disney+.
