WandaVision Creator Says Series Commercials are Important to MCU Storyline

What makes WandaVision stand out? Most people would say it's the vintage commercials that show up in each episode. However, these ads are more than just a quirky way to keep fans entertained. Jac Shaeffer has just confirmed that the commercials are relevant to the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe show's storyline.

Schaeffer, who is the creator behind WandaVision, was recently featured on The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast where he pointed out that the commercials are there for a good reason.

"The commercials were part of our storytelling extremely early on, and have been such [fun], so incredibly fun to do those," Schaeffer said. He then stated that although they appear like a cool nod to ads from the 50s and 60s, they are more than just that.

"[For] the casual Marvel fan, I feel like the commercials are very accessible in that way, but because they're so true to the era, they also — for anyone who doesn't know a single thing about Marvel — they just can exist as more color to the story. But yeah, they're important. You'll see where they go," Schaeffer said.

The commercials certainly appear to be more than just Easter Eggs. For instance, the one that appeared in WandaVision Episode 3 advertises a bath powder called "Hydra Soak" which might be a reference to Agents of SHIELD. Additionally, it could be a tease at Wanda Maximoff embracing her full powers.

So could the fourth episode feature Wanda proving just how powerful she truly is? The truth could be revealed when the next episode of WandaVision premieres on Disney+ on January 29.
