Vinland Saga Season 2 Director Apologizes for Skipping Key Episode

Vinland Saga Season 2 Director Snake

Despite the positive reception of the series from fans, Vinland Saga Season 2 director Shuhei Yabuta released an apology for skipping a key episode that was promised.

While the second season started off slow with the Ketil’s Farm arc, things have started to heat up once again, especially with Thorfinn and Snake.

In the second season, Snake is one of the most intriguing characters, and an episode dedicated to him was originally planned for Season 2.

Snake is a key player in Vinland Saga Season 2’s Ketil’s Farm arc as he is the head of the farm’s guards.

While the guards under him have a mean streak against slaves like Thorfinn, Snake is more compassionate toward them.

In the manga, Snake’s backstory wasn’t really explored, though series creator Makoto Yukimura has a story in mind for his past.

Ahead of the second season, director Shuhei Yabuta received notes from Yukimura that detailed Snake’s backstory.

As such, Yabuta intended to create an anime-original episode dedicated to Snake’s past.

Specifically, he mentioned that this episode was planned to air in the second cour of Season 2.

But because of time and production constraints, they were not able to do it as originally planned.

It’s a bit of a shame that Snake’s backstory wasn’t shown, especially as it would’ve added even more weight to the current events.

Of course, it’s understandable that this happened considering the main story was the series’ focus.

After all, Snake’s backstory wasn’t explored in the manga.

Given that many fans were expecting anime-original backstory scenes, Yabuta shared an apology and an explanation on his personal Twitter account.

There, he explained what happened and how sorry he is that their plans fell through.

Yukimura then replied to the tweet, saying that he was also sorry about mentioning the Snake backstory plans early despite not knowing about what was going on in the anime production side.

He also praised Yabuta and the staff’s work on animating the main story and hinted that a side story about Snake’s past may be released.

As for fans, most of the replies were understanding about the situation, with many continuing to show their appreciation for the anime’s staff.

Vinland Saga Season 2 continues with Episode 17 next week.
