Venom: Tom Hardy Confirms What Story The Film Is Based On

After numerous speculation regarding what story the Venom film is following, lead actor Tom Hardy has confirmed that Sony's next comic book adaptation will be based on Lethal Protector. It's the story many reports had stated, given the characters included and the setting the film is being shot in. Now that Hardy has confirmed the news, it will be interesting to see how this non-MCU Spider-Man spinoff does.

Hardy confirmed the news during Brazil's Comic-Con Experience (via CBR) in a video message. Fans of the symbiote anti-hero were probably pleased with the announcement since the story was incredibly popular during the 90's. This is where the character transitioned from villain to anti-hero after teaming up with Spider-Man to defeat Carnage, who might be the film's leading foe.

When Hardy showed off what he was wearing for the film in set photos, many assumed the movie would follow the Agent Venom era from writer Rick Remender. The film could borrow aspects from that story - perhaps the experience in the army - but keep Eddie Brock instead of using Flash Thompson, who recently appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Agent Venom was critically acclaimed, despite the completely unorthodox approach, so borrowing things from this story wouldn't be bad.

Venom is slated for release on October 5, 2018.
