Venom Director Says The Symbiote Standalone Has Absolutely No Connection To The MCU

There's been a whole lot of confusion about Venom's connection with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Sony announced that they were giving the popular Spider-Man anti-hero his own movie.

However, while some fans continue to hope that the film would have ties to Marvel and that the film would feature a few scenes with Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland, Venom director Ruben Fleischer says there was no contact with Marvel at any point while the film was in production.

In a new interview with Metro, Fleisher openly admits that Venom is completely separate from Marvel and that he had zero contact with the studio while working on the Symbiote standalone movie.

"No. Not in any way," Fleisher answered when asked whether he had discussions with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about the movie.

However, while the director admits that the film has nothing to do with the MCU, Fleisher says there's still a chance for future crossovers and collaborations with Marvel.

"I hope that at some point they will be able to crossover. But for us the entire process was self-contained," the filmmaker told the publication.

Right now, early reviews and reactions for Venom aren't too enticing, with the film's Rotten Tomatoes score coming up at a measly 31 percent. With most reviews calling the film a fun, tone-deaf mess, it's hard to imagine how the film might perform at the box office when it officially premieres on Friday.

The movie might still be tracking for record-breaking October figures, however, early word of mouth may very well affect the film's box office performance.

Venom hits cinemas tomorrow, October 5, 2018.
