Venom Director Says Film has ‘No Real Heroes’

A lot of people were confused as to why Sony would push their Venom movie outside of the MCU, but it seems that the studio is confident with what they have to bring the character to the big screen. Director Ruben Fleischer gives us an idea on how Venom sets itself apart from other superhero movies.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Fleischer explained:

"I was really excited about just bringing something new to the genre… I feel like the tone of our movie is really original and distinctive, which is totally appropriate for the character, as Venom is a darker, more violent, more menacing character. I think our movie feels distinctive from a lot of the other superhero movies, in part because there's no real hero in it."

Though Venom did start out as a villain in the comics, he has steadily grown to become more of an anti-hero. Sure he gives the ‘bad guys' a hell of a beating, but that doesn't mean that he's saving kids and being a good example either.

I'll be honest, the visuals look dazzling, and I'm curious on how Sony plans to sell a Venom origin without having Spider-Man connected at all. Some part of me is thinking that the marketing is just lying, and that Spider-Man actually does play a part in Venom coming to form.

If anything, the film can't be that bad.

Venom hits theaters Oct. 5.
