Venom Won't Have the White Spider Symbol After All

Fans were initially confused when some sources stated the Venom movie would bring the anti-hero's white spider symbol to the big screen. Since Spider-Man seemingly has no connection to the film, it would be odd to have the character rock that crest in his chest. It turns out that the character won't have the symbol in the movie, according to director Ruben Fleischer.

Speaking with IGN, Fleischer gave us a very sensible reason as to why the white spider crest won't be in Venom's chest; because Spider-Man isn't in it. While the character will have oozes of white in him, as previously seen in an official image, he will not have the symbol that associates him with the webhead.

"If you look at the comics, in Venom, there is just elements of white within his suit. Because our character does not originate from Spider-Man, it makes no sense to put a spider on his chest. We tried to be as accurate as we possibly could, even though some people feel it's inaccurate, but there is a lot of white and we wanted to give him a distinctive pattern."

This is a good move overall since keeping the symbol would have made no sense whatsoever. An argument can be made that he is more than a Spider-Man anti-hero, given his popularity, but there's no doubt that he will always be associated with the character in some form or fashion. The movie will try to break away from this thought process and we can only hope that they succeed.

Venom hits theaters on October 5, so there's still a bit of Marvel to watch before DC's Aquaman hits theaters on December.
