Venom 2 Receives Its Rating Due to Intense Violence and Disturbing Material

Sony's Venom: Let There Be Carnage received its official rating from the Motion Picture Association. The release is slated for October 2021. The upcoming sequel will be seeing Tom Hardy reprise the role in the film as Eddie Brock, who became the host for the alien symbiote called Venom.

Aside from Hardy's return, Woody Harrelson will join the film as the serial killer named Cletus Kasady. His character was later infected by the symbiote known as Carnage. The film will be set on Sony's recently retitled SSU or Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

The first Venom film was released in 2018. It served as Sony's first attempt in creating its interconnected universe using its collection of 900 Marvel characters. Sony has the rights over this collection.

Let There Be Carnage will serve as the second film in the SSU franchise. Aside from Venom 2, Sony also has Morbius to be released in 2022 and Kraven the Hunter in 2023. Additionally, Sony is planning to expand its universe with the Spider-Man character named Silk. It will be the first character in the SSU to receive its own series.

Fans may be hoping to have a more adult-oriented film, Sony is trying to maximize its box-office profits by keeping the film into having a broader audience. Just like Marvel Studios, Sony is producing films that have a wider reach.

Some fans thought that the Venom films will have an R rating but Sony has another mindset. Venom: Let There Be Carnage garnered a PG-13 which is a testament to how Sony is following Marvel Cinematic Universe's example.
