The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been released more than a year ago but with the announcement of the upcoming Thunderbolts film and the developments of Captain America 4, Wyatt Russell is expected to be back as John Walker a.k.a. U.S. Agent sooner than expected.

The arc of John Walker has been wild from being the assigned replacement of Captain America to being the U.S. Agent after Contessa Val recruited him and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon assumed the role of the new Cap.

However, Wyatt Russell admitted in an interview with Collider that he had doubts before joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "I feel like every actor says this, but at first, I was very hesitant. If you were a fan of Lodge 49, you weren't going, 'This guy's gonna play Captain America.' I had that same reaction."

Russell shared that he didn’t have any idea what role he was auditioning for then was surprised that it’d be Captain America, "I was like, 'Are you sure you guys want me to play Captain America?' You don't know what you're auditioning for, so I was like, 'Okay, I'll go in and audition and see what it is if I get it.' And then, I got it and I was like, 'Okay, cool. Who am I playing?'”

Russell added that the role of Captain America is a difficult one to play, “I had a meeting with Kari Skogland and Zoie Nagelhout at Marvel, and they showed me a picture of Captain America. At first, I was like, 'Oh, my God.' Captain America is a very difficult character to play because his moral compass is always pointing north.”

Russell expounded that being Captain America is impossible to fill in, “"It's a difficult character to pull off. And when you have somebody who was so good at it, just do it, who's so beloved, you're going, 'I don't wanna play that guy. That's impossible shoes to fill. No. No way. I'm just not your guy.”

When Russell found out it would be the U.S. Agent, he was quite relieved and he finally gave in, "And then, they were like, 'No, no, no, it's this other character.' He turns into this anti-Captain America and bizarro world Captain America. As we started talking about it, I was like, 'Okay, I can have some ownership over this character because I can make it what I want, in certain ways.' They gave me the leeway to really do that and put a stamp on it.”

Wyatt Russell entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe and without a doubt, pulled off the role of John Walker a.k.a. U.S. Agent with his very own brand and surely, no one can ever look at him the same after his epic portrayal of the role.

With the upcoming film of the Thunderbolts, Wyatt Russell is expected to be back with a bang in the group of anti-heroes with Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Taskmaster, Ghost, The Abomination, and Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine.

MCU’s Thunderbolts has no release date yet.
