Urusei Yatsura Drops First Trailer, and Release Window for the Reboot

After almost four decades, Urusei Yatsura is coming back to the small screens with a reboot of the beloved 1978 manga series of Rumiko Takahashi in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. As the show comes back, it drops its very own trailer which has key visuals and the release window of the title.

The official website of Urursei Yatsura just dropped a whole lot of amazing materials for the upcoming reboot of Rumiko Takahashi’s 1978 manga series with the very first promotional video of the show including key visuals on Thursday which gives everyone two additional cast members and the release window of the series.

The trailer teases what is in store for the upcoming reboot featuring the cast of the show and everyone can expect Urusei Yatsura to arrive later this year, in 2022. New members of the cast include Wataru takagi as Cherry and Miyuki Sawashiro as Sakura.

The classic series Urusei Yatsura will be back on a brand-new project as part of the commemoration of Shogakukan’s milestone of their 100th anniversary. It is written by Rumiko Takahashi who has been one of the most notable in the field of manga having one of the longest runs in his career and producing famous titles such as RIN-NE, Inuyasha, Ranma ½, and Maison Ikkoku.

Urusei Yatsura was published in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1978 to 1987 where it had 374 chapters compiled into 34 tankōbon volumes. The title got an anime adaptation produced by Kitty Films from 1981 to 1986 having 195 all in all. It also had 12 OVAs and six films. It was that big that it has been a classic title over the years.

Urusei Yatsura is set to release in four cours which makes it one whole year, however, there is no definitive detail as to whether it would be out successively or with breaks in between every cour.

Urusei Yatsura reboot is scheduled to premiere on October 2022, foming part of the Fall Anime Season.
