Topeka Renames Itself ToPikachu in Honor of the Pokemon Mascot

We all love franchises in different ways, whether it's collecting their toys, writing fanfictions, or playing their video games, fans like to show our admiration for them. Looks like Michelle De La Isla likes to take things to the extreme, as the mayor of Kansas City Topeka has announced that the city would be called ToPikachu this coming Saturday, in honor of the Pokemon mascot.

That's right; the mayor of a city has decided to rename a place with a storied history for one day because Pikachu is awesome. Most people will probably have a mixed reaction to this but as fans of the franchise, we can appreciate how this mayor decides to use her power for fandom.

According to CJ Online, the city will only be renamed for one day but it's going to be a fairly exciting one for fans of Pokemon. Nintendo will provide some playable Switch hardware with next month's Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Let's Go! Eevee so any fan curious about the two games can try it out there.

Pikachu has always been fairly popular with fans, which is why he's the series mascot. The developers at Game Freak seem to be aware of this, always making the Pokemon available in every iteration of the game, whether it be in the wild or a special code. Making a city use its name might be a bit much but it is kind of fun.

Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu and Let's Go! Eevee are coming out on November 16.
