This Top Gun star shares he nearly bagged his Star Wars entry, until he 'blew' his Han Solo audition.
The Han Solo we know today wasn't always the only actor meant to play the role. At one point, this Top Gun: Maverick star tried auditioning but just didn't get the part in the end. Glen Powell recounts the past auditions he 'blew'.
Glen Powell Reveals He Was Almost Star Wars' New Han Solo
"I can joke about it now, [but] I blew that final audition," Powell said, indicating one of the many moments in life where he felt he didn't have the chance at having his own spotlight in Hollywood.
Alongside Powell, Ansel Elgort also auditioned for the titular role, but it was Alden Ehrenreich who landed to lead Solo.
Alden's Han Solo was praiseworthy and Solo: A Star Wars Story bombed at the box office grossing $393.2M worldwide and was eventually nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 91st Academy Awards.
The Anyone But You male lead stated that there is a "weird duality of the business" in which he has to admittedly "be comfortable with saying, 'I did my best, it wasn't meant to be.'"
However, Han Solo was just the tip of the iceberg on Glen Powell trying to shape his career from the ground up.

Anyone But You Star Also Lost Big Franchises To Other A-Listers
Powell also happened to share that he screwed up his audition for Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger and lost it to Chris Evans, though without disclosing how. He came to a different conclusion.
"There's definitely a bit of a game [to the whole thing]. It was clear to me very early on that it's not a meritocracy, and I still believe that," Powell added.
Previously, he also went to audition for Cowboys & Aliens where he was supposedly playing Harrison Ford's son. The 'bad cowboy' type of role. When Powell tried to manifest himself to be like Ben Foster, lo and behold, "The guy before me is Ben Foster."
While they both lost the bad cowboy to Paul Dano, Powell came to a personal realization of being in Hollywood, "I still believe that the best guy doesn't necessarily get the job. You can't just be good – you also have to be very lucky."
Despite losing his chance to huge Hollywood franchises, Glen Powell became a star in the industry through his huge film successes such as Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You.
As of writing, Powell is doing a Heaven Can Wait remake, Edgar Wright's reimagined The Running Man, and will be leading the Twister sequel titled Twisters.
"It's haunting when you blow those moments, but that's one of the parts of [the Hollywood myth] that's not true," Powell continued, "That was always somebody else's ride to go on. You know what I mean? It was never yours to go on. If you put your time in, you'll get your ride."
