Tom Hiddleston Says Avengers: Infinity War Redeemed Loki

Loki might have been dancing around his moral compass throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, despite his many failings, Tom Hiddleston believes that the Asgardian God of Mischief managed to redeem himself in Avengers: Infinity War.

Loki has always been a complex character – likable because of his shenanigans and his wit. Despite his attempts at world domination and betrayal, Loki's character arc eventually leans towards forgiveness and redemption starting with Thor: Ragnarok and ending with Infinity War.

Speaking with fans during an appearance at ACE Comic Con in Phoenix, Arizona this afternoon (via ComicBook.com), Hiddleston opened up about his character's motivation and how Loki had eventually been redeemed from his past sins.

"It goes back to that first film," Hiddleston said, responding. "He finds out too late that he was adopted and that his real father was his father's mortal sworn enemy and that is incredibly, emotionally destabilizing."

Marvel fans might remember how Loki loses his life in Infinity War. Making a play at Thanos, the Asgardian God of Mischief attempts at stabbing the Mad Titan to save his brother, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and what little remains of the Asgardians ship fleeing towards Earth. Of course, Thanos is much quicker and much stronger than Loki, and the Mad Titan makes quick work of Thor's brother, snapping his neck in two during the opening sequence of Infinity War.

The death of his brother comes as a huge blow to Thor. The Asgardian God of Thunder just lost his father and his sister in Thor: Ragnarok, and a few hours after that, he lost his brother.

According to Hiddleston, Loki had always been a broken and troubled character. His redemption in Infinity War was inevitable.

"I think the first film really humanizes him and I think makes the rest of the journey interesting," the actor told fans. "It makes you always think that he could be pulled back and redeemed. And in my opinion, he is redeemed in Infinity War."

Fortunately, while Loki is dead as they come, Hiddleston is set to reprise his role for an upcoming Marvel series in Disney's upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

Infinity War's sequel, Avengers: Endgame, is set to premiere April 26, 2019.
