Tokyo 24th Ward Anime Episode 6 Recap

In Episode 6 of Tokyo 24th Ward, Ran tries his best to navigate the loss of his best friend. As the police are about to arrest him and question him about his relationship with Kunai, his gang, DoRed, manages to get him to safety.
The next day, a video is broadcasted; Kunai had intended for it to be released in the event of his death. In it, Kunai reveals that the phone app he created was appropriated by Howard to create Drug D, in an attempt to destroy Shantytown and, eventually, gentrify it. While he urges the public not to blame DoRed, declaring their innocence, Ran cannot rest. Despite Shuta's attempts at reconciliation, Ran still suspects that Koki will give his location away.
Koki himself is extremely conflicted. Part of him wants to help his friend, understanding that he's a morally complex person who had to make some illegal choices to protect his loved ones. However, despite Shuta's pleas, Koki feels he cannot come back from killing Ran's best friend, and realizes that the RGB will never return to the way they were before Asumi's death.
Instead, Koki decides to follow in his father's footsteps as a future leader of Tokyo 24th Ward, with all the corruption this implies. When he tells his father all about Asumi's phone calls, the Major dismisses his concerns. Instead, he takes Koki to secret quarters, where he reveals his unsettling creation: a supercomputer named KANAE after Koki's mother whose ideas about improving society inspired it.
But Koki's mother is long-dead, and, judging from the flashbacks, she appears to be much kinder than Koki's father. It appears that Mayor Gori has corrupted her vision. Indeed, he soon introduces a new safety system, based on project KANAE. This is supposed to protect citizens from violent crime, but, in doing so, it will use personal data from their phones, causing mixed reviews.
To make things even more disturbing, Gori reveals that the heart of the new system is Asumi's brain, which has been preserved into her dead body. But what of her phone calls to the three leads - then? Could this have been orchestrated by her father? Or is Asumi still there, trying to prevent her father's twisted plans? Hopefully, the next episode will reveal the answer!

Tokyo 24th Ward Anime Episode 7 Release Date
Tokyo 24th Ward Episode 7 will air next Thursday, the 24th of February 2022. Due to time zone differences, fans in Europe, Canada, and the US will be able to access the episode from February 23.
The episode will be available on both Crunchyroll and Funimation, and readily available to subscribed users. Viewers without a premium membership will have to wait an extra week.
