Tokyo 24th Ward Episode 4 introduced us to a new location and a new trolley dilemma. The anime has not yet descended to Wonder Egg Priority nightmare levels, but the monstrous Carneades is a reminder of what horrors CloverWorks might yet have in store for us.

Tokyo 24th Ward Anime Episode 4 Recap

While not as tense and action-packed as its predecessor, episode 4 of Tokyo 24-Ward was both a good breather and a prelude to more RGB activity to come, all while offering important chunks of world-building.
After failing to prevent the death of their beloved teacher, Kaba, the three leads are vainly trying to focus on their everyday lives, while expecting another fateful call from "Asumi" any day. Their mostly uneventful days are interrupted when Shuta sees Kozue, Kaba's formerly reclusive daughter, venture into the nearby shantytown, which Mr. Howard, the "Casino King" is looking to gentrify.
Shuta, Ran, and Koki are worried, thinking that Kozue is after the highly addictive drug that is wreaking havoc amongst the young people of Tokyo 24th Ward. Ran, a long-time resident of the shantytown, arranges for his friend, Kunai, to check on Kozue, who is not after drugs at all. Instead, she wanders in search of graffiti art that illustrates her father as a superhero.
Kunai explains that people from shantytown tend to become either criminals who rule Tokyo 24th Ward with money, or protesting artists, like Ran. Kunai is against the planned gentrification of shantytown, thinking that its residents who now live in the shadows, will not survive it.
Later, Kozue and Shuta reunite. While still traumatized, Kozue finally feels able to move beyond her survivor's guilt and recognizes Shuta as a hero even if he was unable to save her father.
Suddenly, the nightmarish symbol of Carneades takes over the sky and the 24th Ward's screens. At the same time, the RGB receive another phone call from "Asumi." This time, they are told that a cruise ship full of VIPs has a remote-controlled bomb. The boys are called to choose whether to assassinate the terrorist who planted the bomb before he can detonate it, or leave the passengers to die. The answer seems obvious until they realize that the terrorist is Ran's friend, Kunai.
Episode 5 promises to be a tense one, with a great emotional cost for Ran. We expect that the RGB will at least try to stop Kunai before attempting to kill him, but could that ever go well? Episode 3 revealed that failing to choose amongst the two given options might have terrible consequences. With this cliffhanger, episode 5 can't come out fast enough!
Tokyo 24th Ward Anime Episode 5 Release Date
Tokyo 24th Ward Episode 5 will air next Thursday, the 3rd of February 2022. Due to time zone differences, fans in Europe, Canada, and the US will be able to access the episode from February 2.
The episode will be available on both Crunchyroll and Funimation, and readily available to subscribed users. Viewers without a premium membership will have to wait an extra week.
