Tobey Maguire Teases Potential Return as Spider-Man: "I Don't Want to Say Close the Chapter"

The return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home delighted fans as they didn't expect that they will see them again in those roles and it also confirms the rumor that has been running around for a year prior to the release. As a result, a lot of fans are now clamoring for them to play Spider-Man again in their respective solo films and now it looks like there is a chance that it could happen soon.

During an interview with Deadline's Pete Hammond which reunited Maguire, Garfield, and Tom Holland discussing Spider-Man: No Way Home, Maguire shared the story about the time when he was asked to reprise the role of Spider-Man in which he hinted that it may not be the last time that we're going to see him as the character.

"I’m a big fan of Tom and those movies and Andrew. So it was definitely intriguing," Maguire said. "But, yes, I was also going, ‘Well, what what are we going to do?’ And that was a bit mysterious. I did appreciate what was shared. But it was really about getting together with these people and revisiting what was part of my history and getting a chance to, like, come together. There are personal things too, which are kind of resolutions or a way to revisit and... I’m not quite sure how to put it. It’s just to get back into that and I don’t want to say close the chapter, but revisit and have certain resolutions and just join in this loving creative spirit."

While Maguire didn't heavily indicate that he will be playing Spider-Man again in the future, he is hinting that there is a chance that we might see him again in the role since he specifically said that he is not "closing the chapter" yet on playing the role which has become iconic in his career.

It also adds to the rumor that has been fueling around for the past few weeks regarding him reprising the role of Spider-Man in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is directed by Sam Raimi, who also helmed Maguire's Spider-Man trilogy. Whether the actor will eventually appear in the upcoming sequel or will star in a potential fourth film starring him (which is what fans are clamoring for), at least we have a word from Maguire that he is open to playing the character again in the future.
