To No One's Surprise, Venom 2 is Already in Development

Venom has come out to be one of the weirdest anomalies in the box office this year. Despite incredibly poor critical reception, the movie has had a ridiculous amount of success profit-wise, and it even had to extend its theatrical run in China because it was performing so well. So of course, Sony has already started developing the sequel.

This is confirmed by Venom screenwriter Jeff Pinkner who tells Discussing Film, "I can't say anything [about the Venom sequel] other than that it is happening."

Though I was on the side of the audience that thought the movie was terrible, I don't think Venom is without its merits. For one, the effects are great, and Venom looks fantastic onscreen. Plus, the chemistry between Brock and the Symbiote is just so fun to watch that you'll forget that the plot is ridiculously simplistic at times.

With this sequel, we're expected to see a clash with Carnage who will be played by Woody Harrelson. Though I have no qualms about Harrison taking on the role—in fact, I think it's perfect casting—I just want someone to give him something better than the Carrot Top wig he was wearing in the mid-credits scene. Heck, Nicolas Cage's wig from Ghost Rider looked a lot better.

For now, Venom is gearing up for its home release. The movie is set to hit digital this coming Dec. 11 and Blu-Ray/DVD on Dec. 18.
