Tim Blake Nelson: Alan Moore Will 'Appreciate' HBO's Watchmen

Alan Moore is a great writer and it's known by a lot of his fans that he doesn't care for any live-action adaptations of his work. He didn't really care about Zack Snyder's take on Watchmen, but Tim Blake Nelson (who plays Looking Glass in the show) believes that Moore will be more open to HBO's series set in the same world.

Nelson tells Empire:

"[Showrunner] Damon Lindelof […] is doing something that I think Alan Moore actually will appreciate, which is that he's treating the Watchmen novel as a history book, and he's imagining the world created by the Watchmen now… And he's using that as a prism through which to examine a lot of issues currently on the surface of American culture and politics."

If anything, calling HBO's Watchmen series an adaptation is inaccurate. At best, it's an expansion of the story that was started in Moore's comic. Like Nelson said, this will see the present world today after Ozymandias' genocide; the giant squid still attacked people, and Dr. Manhattan had been missing since the 80s.

Though Moore is known to be a grump when it comes to adaptations of his work, maybe he'll be more open to a series that would try and see what modern society would turn out like if they thought they were attacked by some weird squid alien. It's still very true to the spirit of his book, and at best it's going to turn out to be very expensive fan fiction.

No release date has been set for Damon Lindelof's Watchmen, but it's expected to premiere sometime next year.
