Thunderbolts is set to feature a team-up of fan-favorite MCU characters from past films and TV shows including the likes of Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, US Agent, Taskmaster, and many more.

One of the characters that has been speculated by fans to appear is Baron Zemo, who we last saw in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, he was notably absent from the list when the line-up was announced late last year.

Considering that the character is part of the line-up in the comics and has become a fan-favorite in the MCU for the last few years, some fans find it jarring that he won't be part of the film and they're still hoping that they'll still include him in some capacity.

Now, one of the stars of the film has set the record straight regarding the character's rumored inclusion.

In an interview with The Playlist, Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker/US Agent, addressed the rumored inclusion of Daniel Bruhl's Baron Zemo in Thunderbolts.

He revealed that the character is not included in the film based on the details that he knows so far.

"Daniel is not going to be it, [but] he could play a part in it. I don’t know. I haven’t read a script yet, but as of now, I’m not sure," he said.

When asked about the rumored inclusion of Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross, Russell gave a similar response as he also wasn't sure whether he is actually part of the film.

"Harrison’s in Captain America 4, I think. I don’t know, I haven’t read a script, so I don’t know who exactly who’s in it," the actor said. "I know Florence is in it, I know Sebastian’s in it. I know David Harbour is going to be in it."

The film is still currently in the pre-production process as they're planning to begin filming around early next year so it is understandable why Russell is uncertain about Bruhl and Ford's potential appearances in the movie.

Based on the official announcements that have been made so far, we can safely say for now that Zemo is not part of the film although it could obviously still change since the script is still being written and Marvel Studios might decide to bring back the character after all in later stages.

A lot of fans would definitely love to see him be part of the movie since his potential inclusion in the already-tumultuous line-up would make the team dynamic more interesting as it could open up for more chaos.

Thunderbolts is slated for release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
