Thousands of Fans Return to The Witcher Games After Debut of the Netflix Show

Netflix had just dropped their new Witcher series starring Henry Cavill last weekend, and it has been mostly well-received by fans of the franchise. What's interesting is, it's also brought renewed interest in CD Projekt Red's The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.

According to PlayTracker, the game has hit 48,000 concurrent players on Steam, and there is also a rise in numbers when it comes to Xbox and Playstation. As it turns out, the last time The Witcher had this many players was when the final DLC, Blood and Wine came out on Steam in the summer of 2016.

Besides The Witcher III, there are also new players for previous games as well. More players are checking out previous installments like the original Witcher game as well as The Witcher 2: Assassin's and Kings, earning about 3000 players.

Surely the number will rise and fall as hype for The Witcher is still at a high. We don't know what's in store for the future, but hopefully, we get a new strong fandom out of this world created by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Personally, I thought that the Witcher series was kind of campy, but every other element of the show exceeds expectations. Henry Cavill absolutely nails it as Geralt of Rivia, and CG and action for the show are topnotch. With the second season coming out, I hope showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich finds a way to get some better dialogue. I swear almost every episode has the word ‘destiny' mentioned at least 5 times.
