Here's What Netflix's The Witcher Learned From Game of Thrones' Mistakes

Netflix's The Witcher is officially a mixed bag if the critics are to be believed. While the effects are decent and the action is solid, the script, acting, and pacing has been criticized by many, the latter in particular since it takes a while before anything exciting happens. Still, the series has a number of fans and showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich would rather listen to them then the critics.

I guess she hasn't seen Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker yet huh?

Speaking with Variety, Hissrich revealed that she learned from some of the mistakes Game of Thrones made, the biggest one being that they didn't interact with their fans. This is why the showrunner is fairly active on Twitter so she can analyze the feedback the show gets, even if it does lead to some fairly toxic encounters.

Here's what Hissrich had to say about fan interaction:

"I put myself on Twitter very, very early on and announced who I was, what I was doing, and was met with all sorts of reactions, good and bad, but I stuck around. What I want people to know is that I love this franchise. It doesn't mean I'm going to do everything that fans want me to do, or do it the way they think it should be done, but as long as they know I'm trying to honor the same thing that they love because I love it too, I tell myself we'll be all good."

While fan interaction is appreciated, it can also be a dangerous thing to partake in. If fans don't like the changes you make, sometimes it's best to press forward with your vision instead of just bending over backward and giving them what they want. Seriously, as a fan of geek media, we can be the absolute worst.

Netflix's The Witcher is now airing on Netflix, with a second season already greenlit.
