Thor Ragnarok: Taika Waititi Based His Korg Performance On Polynesian Bouncers

Taika Waititi loves appearing in his own movies, and he has the fun role of Korg in Thor: Ragnarok. Korg is every bit a Kiwi that Waititi is (save for being made out of rocks), and he drew special inspiration from an unlikely source.

In an interview with Cartoon Brew, VFX supervisor Jake Morrison explains how Waititi based his performance on Polynesian bouncers. He says:

"These guys are huge, and then when you talk to them, they're much more gentle than you might think, and they might say something like, ‘Nice to see you mate, do you want to get in?' They've got that light sort of lilt in their voices against type. I think Taika loved the idea of playing against type for that one."

Though the role of Korg is only a short one, a lot of people still loved the character and it's said that he'll be making a return in future Marvel movies. Though originally a character from the Planet Hulk comics, Korg is a lot more of a friend to Thor in the films, and we get to see him play a major part in the liberation of Sakaar from the Grandmaster.

I'm a huge fan of Waititi, and whenever I watch a movie of his, it always turns into this fun game of Where's Waldo where you try and figure out where Waititi pops up. He made an appearance in Ragnarok, and I'm eager to see Korg return in some more Marvel movies.

Thor: Ragnarok is now out in theaters.
