Thor Ragnarok: The Destroyer Was Supposed To Come Back And Fight Hela

Thor: Ragnarok was rife with references to past movies like Avengers and the first Thor film, and as it turns out, the Destroyer armor from Thor was originally supposed to make an reappearance and clash with Hela.

Talking to Yahoo! News, screenwriter Eric Pearson explained:

"I always want the villain to be really … not-Disney. I want to give them moments where they're really massacring or crushing people… And she has that great entrance where she takes everybody out. [Originally it was extended,] and they were like, ‘This is a bit repetitive, and we don't have the days to shoot it.' There was [also] a scene where she thought they were hiding the sword in the armory, this big fortress. She goes up, and the destroyer armor comes out to take her out, and she just rips that thing apart too, just to call back the destroyer armor. And it just felt like an extra beat that we didn't need. We needed to get Thor pushing back to Asgard as fast as possible."

I absolutely loved coming back to Odin's vault to watch Hela tear down some of the "fake" items inside it, and that was where I was expecting the Destroyer to reappear. Too bad they thought the scene wasn't needed for the film. To be honest, I think watching Hela take down the Destroyer would have raised the stakes on just how powerful she is.

Though I thought Ragnarok was a fun time, I thought some other choices could have played out a lot better. For one, the Warriors Three were taken out quite unceremoniously. They've been with Thor since the first film, and I thought they deserved a better ending than what they got. Whatever happens from this point, I hope they address the deaths of Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun properly.

Catch Thor: Ragnarok now in theaters.
