Thor: Ragnarok Director Explains Why Thor Uses A Gun In The Movie

Marvel dropped the first official trailer for Thor: Ragnarok during the San Diego Comic Con last weekend and while there's so much excitement building up over Taika Waititi's cosmic superhero adventure, fans who've seen the preview wondered why the director had Chris Hemsworth's Thor use a gun at one point in the video.

Of course, everyone already knows that Cate Blanchett's Hela destroys Mjolnir in Thor: Ragnarok, however some reason that Waititi could have given the Asgardian god of thunder a weapon more appropriate for a god.

Speaking with IGN after the Marvel Studios panel at Hall H in the 2017 San Diego Comic Con last weekend, Waititi explained why he'd decided to give Thor a gun in Ragnarok instead of more "divine" weapon.

"I think we really wanted to challenge Thor in this film. He's challenged further than in any of the other films. He loses the hammer, which is the source of his power, and he's really on the back foot most of the film. We didn't want him to be able to utilize magic, or to have Loki's magic. We didn't want him to have too many advantages. He had to really find his way out of this predicament using his brain and using his friends."

While Ragnarok is going to have Thor at a disadvantage for most of the film, we can still expect the Asgardian god of thunder to beat the odds when he marches into battle against Hela. Thor might be deprived of his magic for sometime in Ragnarok but the trailers have teased a thunderous battle between Hela and Thor, so we know for sure that it'll be back soon.

Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas November 3, 2017.
