It looks like we haven't seen the last of Hela. Although the villain was seemingly killed off in Thor: Ragnarok, she is expected to return in Thor: Love and Thunder. But don't expect to see Cate Blanchett as Thor and Loki's sister in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.
Several photos were taken from the set of Love and Thunder have been making the rounds on the internet, and the images confirm that the sequel will feature another stage play like the one in Ragnarok. Interestingly, the new play could depict what happened during the Fall of Asgard and that means Hela is a major player.
We're loving how the pictures confirm that Matt Damon, Sam Neill, and Luke Hemsworth will portray Fake Loki, Fake Odin, and Fake Thor once again. But who is playing Hela in the play? It's none other than The Equalizer star Melissa McCarthy. You can see the photos here.
Fans have been speculating McCarthy's role in Love and Thunder and we're loving the idea that she's going to portray an even more flamboyant version of Hela. It looks like the stage play alone is going to be worth the wait for the fourth Thor film.
It was previously confirmed that Damon would be joining the cast of Love and Thunder. Neill himself admitted that he was working out a way to appear in the sequel. Needless to say, we can't wait to see the actor versions of the Asgardian gods next year.
Thor: Love and Thunder is directed by Taika Waititi and will star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, and Christian Bale. The film is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
