So far, Thor's future in the MCU post-Love and Thunder has not been set yet as there is still no official announcement regarding Chris Hemsworth's return to the role and whether he will star in a fifth solo movie.

Considering that Love and Thunder received mixed reviews, it is likely that Marvel Studios will be more cautious this time around if ever they decide to do a fifth movie with the God of Thunder. There is also a chance that we will see the character again instead in the upcoming Avengers movies.

Hemsworth has also hinted that his tenure in the MCU might be close to an end and he could say farewell to the character in one of the upcoming projects. He also had a recent health issue that is hindering him from continuing to play the role in the long term.

Now, as we're waiting for updates surrounding the God of Thunder's next MCU journey, the director of the recent solo films has shared his plans if ever Marvel Studios decided to move forward with a fifth movie.

In the upcoming book Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special (via Screen Rant), director Taika Waititi opened up about his plans for a potential fifth movie.

While he didn't lay out the plot he has in mind for the God of Thunder's next solo adventure, he did tease that he is eyeing a villain that is more powerful than Hela.

"What is left to do to him? It's got to be something that feels like it's carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they're building on the obstacles that he has to overcome," he said.

"I don't think we can have a villain that's weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that's somehow more formidable."

Variety noted in their report regarding this news that a fifth Thor movie is currently not in development at Marvel Studios.

If they do move forward with another solo movie with the God of Thunder, they really need to stir in the right direction again due to the previous film's divisive reactions and find a way to give the character another proper adventure, especially if it will be his swan song.

It won't be surprising at this point if Waititi won't also end up returning to helm the hypothetical fifth movie and the idea that he shared in the book will simply be just an idea that won't manifest.

Thor: Love and Thunder is available to stream on Disney+.
