After weeks of clamoring and waiting, the first teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder finally arrived today which gave us the much-awaited look at Thor's next adventure in the MCU after the events of Avengers: Endgame. While it featured our first look at the return of some of the beloved characters such as Korg, Valkyrie, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the debut of Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor, there was one key character that didn't show up in the 90-second footage.
Christian Bale's Gorr the God Butcher was notably absent in the first Thor: Love and Thunder teaser trailer even though he was expected to be the film's main villain. A lot of fans took to social media to express their disappointment regarding the character's absence.
Here are some of the reactions from fans when they realized that Gorr was a no-show in the trailer:
However, despite Gorr's absence in the trailer, there were shots in the trailer that is a reference to the character's appearances in the comics which was pointed out by some of the fans online.
While the trailer didn't show us any footage of Gorr, some of the merchandise and toys for the upcoming film that have leaked or announced early gave us our first look at the character:
Right now, it's hard to tell why Marvel decided to hold back the first look at Gorr in the trailer. There is a possibility that the VFX work is not polished enough for them to show him. However, you can also look at the possibility that it's simply just a marketing move since the trailer emphasized more on giving us a look at what Thor's next journey will look like rather than showing what the actual plot will be.
Gorr's absence in this trailer doesn't necessarily mean that they will hide his involvement throughout the marketing. We can easily bet that he will show up in the next trailer when they finally show what the plot of the film is going to be and how ruthless can the character be.
The film "finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late."
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8.
