Earlier this month, the much-awaited first look at the 2020 reimagining of The Witches was finally unveiled but the teaser that was meant to deliver the creeps didn't exactly give away that much. Now, a new preview for the film which is top-billed by Anne Hathaway features The Grand High Witch's true form and it's pretty darn spooky.
Sharing a new teaser for the Robert Zemeckis film on her official Instagram account, Hathaway hyped-up her followers who finally saw her character's terrifying transformation, complete with jagged fangs and an unsettling wide smile. It doesn't share any resemblance to Anjelica Huston's original look from the 1990 film but man, it's guaranteed to give you nightmares and I'm not even exaggerating. Check it out here:
Read the official synopsis for the film below:
Reimagining Dahl's beloved story for a modern audience, Zemeckis's visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world's Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.
The 2020 version of The Witches will serve as HBO Max's first true full-length release this year and its success could very well determine the fate of the brand and if the new streaming service has an actual shot at making it big in the game in the long run. Well, considering it will be released in time for the Halloween season and puts together a stellar cast, this new iteration of the horror-comedy classic definitely stands a chance.
The Witches will begin streaming on HBO Max this October 22.
