It has been a long time since we got any updates on Robert Zemeckis' reboot of The Witches. Luckily, we now have our first look at the highly anticipated new adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic story and it looks like Anne Hathaway will be wickedly perfect as the Grand High Witch.
The trailer opens with a young orphan who is sent to live with his grandma. Although all is well for the two, they soon encounter some glamorous yet evil witches.
From there, things get interesting that the witches concoct an evil plan to get rid of every child they come across. However, the boy and his grandma aren't about to give up without a fight.
The synopsis for The Witches reads as follows:
"Reimagining Dahl's beloved story for a modern audience, Zemeckis's visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world's Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans."
The film also stars Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, and Chris Rock. The Witches will begin streaming on HBO Max on October 22, just in time for Halloween.
