The Witcher Star Henry Cavill Shares How He Developed Geralt's Fighting Style

One of the coolest things about Geralt of Rivia may have been his fighting style which mainly takes on the defensive side. Interestingly, Henry Cavill confirmed that his character's style was something that he worked on with the stunt team of The Witcher.

Cavill recently spoke to Vanity Fair where he pointed out that Geralt's fighting style was immediately shown off in the first action sequence in the Netflix series.

"I think it's best reflected and represented in the Blaviken fight in episode one, where I got to work [during re-shoots] with Wolfgang Stegemann and Eastwood Action Stunts and that team," Cavill said. He then added that it was during this scene that he "got a chance to really express the character through the physicality of it."

Cavill continued by stating that he "wanted [Geralt] to look like a living weapon" and he hopes this is proven in the fight against Princess Renfri.

"At the same time, he can still hold a conversation and try and save someone's life while they're trying to kill him. You see it especially with the Renfri fight. He's on the defensive with a couple of moves to try and put her on the back foot, and she doesn't listen and she keeps on pressing the attack," Cavill said.

"Eventually you see the point where he realizes that she won't stop, that he will die because she is quick enough. So he presses the attack. The story of who he is as a character is told so physically there," he concluded.

The Blaviken scene was truly one of the most memorable sequences in the first season. Needless to say, we can't wait to see more of Geralt in action next year.

Cavill will return in The Witcher Season 2, which will premiere on Netflix in 2021.
