The Witcher Showrunner Says Season 2 Will Focus on Geralt's 'Brothers'

There is little doubt that fans are already excited for The Witcher Season 2. But what can we look forward to in the second season of the Netflix series? Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has just confirmed that Geralt's "brothers" will play a major role in the show next year.

Hissrich recently spoke to The Wrap about The Witcher Season 2 and she revealed that although Ciri and Yennefer will still be major players in the series, she will be introducing new characters who are just as important to Geralt of Rivia.

"When I talk about The Witcher, I always talk about how these three characters coming together — Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer — they come together as a family. It's the most important part of the series for me," Hissrich said. "And when you start to imagine someone's family, you also need to understand their family of origin. Sometimes that's a mother and father, sometimes that's blood relatives."

Interestingly, the family members that will be introduced in The Witcher Season 2 are not actually related to Henry Cavill's characters but still played a huge role in his upbringing.

"For Geralt, it's his brothers, it's the brotherhood of the switches," Hissrich continued. "So I'm really excited to get back in and meet Vesemir, his father figure, for the first time and all of these men that he was raised with since he was seven years old."

We already know that Vesemir will show up in the second season. It was previously reported that the character will be portrayed by Kim Bodnia of Killing Eve, so we're looking forward to seeing him in action.

The Witcher Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. However, the series is already expected to air on Netflix next year.
