The Witcher Showrunner Confirms New Monsters for Geralt to Face

Netflix's The Witcher is looking to be one of the better video game adaptations out there and already has a greenlit second season so it looks like things are going to go well. We all know that the series is going to differ from the books and games quite a bit, introducing Ciri and Yennefer early on being the biggest indicator of that.

Most of us are expecting even more changes and brand-new additions, with showrunner Lauren Hissrich confirming this by claiming that there will be new monsters for Geralt to face. This is pretty great since monsters are a constant in this universe and it's Geralt's job to kill them; that's what Witchers do after all.

Why isn't this series just called Monster Hunter? Because Capcom has a million-dollar gaming franchise with the name, that's why. Also, it's getting a movie soon and it looks awful.

Sorry for that, here's what Hissrich had to say about the new monsters that Geralt will be facing in Netflix's The Witcher (Via Netflix):

"It's funny, 'cause monsters are huge in The Witcher, but it's actually one of the things that we're trying to hold out of the teasers and trailers as much as possible. Because we think there's a great element of surprise for existing fans who don't know what stories we're playing with and what monsters we're playing with. And also, there's a couple of new monsters that we've come up with based on a lot of sort of Polish folklore."

That actually sounds pretty exciting and we're willing to see what these monsters are going to look like. Geralt will likely shine against these monsters and we can expect some nifty fights to break up all the politics and romance every once in a while.

Netflix's The Witcher debuts on December 20.
