The Witcher Featurette: Henry Cavill Explains Geralt’s Different Swords

Geralt of Rivia has an entire arsenal of potions and weapons at his disposal for different types of monster hunting, but the show never really goes in-depth when it comes to the gear. Thanks to Netflix, we have a new featurette with Henry Cavill breaking down Geralt’s different swords on The Witcher.

Check it out:

Mainly in the show, Geralt has two swords to pick from. The main one is made of steel and has Renfri’s broche attached to it, serving as a reminder for Geralt when it comes to his relationship with humans. This sword is used for fighting anything, and Cavill had actually contributed to the design, making sure he could move properly with it.

The second one is made of silver, which is not the best metal for fighting, but the most useful one for fighting specific monsters. Geralt doesn’t really keep this one on his person, but it’s always attached to his horse, Roach.

The other swords in the series are prop swords. One type is a rubber sword which helps with fight scenes, and the other is a “cut-down” sword which is only part of a sword; this one is used for the scenes where Geralt has to cut through a person. If you’re curious on how they do that, Cavill merely wields part of a sword, and the rest of it is added in post.

The Witcher has come out to be a huge success for Netflix, and we’re sure to get more seasons down the line. Let’s just hope they hire a better writer this time around.
