The Witcher: Blood Origin Showrunner Reveals What Sets Prequel Apart From Main Series

There is little doubt that The Witcher: Blood Origin will be compared to the original Netflix series when it finally comes out this month. But what makes the prequel different from The Witcher? Showrunner Declan de Barra reveals what sets Blood Origin apart from its predecessor.

Declan de Barra recently took part in a featurette for The Witcher: Blood Origin where the showrunner explained that although the prequel is set on the Continent, it will be very different because the events take place 1200 years before Geralt of Rivia meets Princess Ciri. He then added that the people are unlike the ones in the original series since "they don’t know of monsters, and we’re meeting the elves at the height of their empire.”

De Barra added that Blood Origin will introduce three new kingdoms namely Prishia, Zarriya, and Darwin.

“Each one of them has their own clan to protect Royals. We have the Dog Clan, the Serpent clan, and the Raven clan – the clans are a special guard that answers to no one they just protect the Kings and Queens of these three kingdoms,” he said.

Although the prequel will not feature many familiar faces, it shares two things with The Witcher: The mysterious monoliths and a charming bard named Jaskier. Interestingly, both will play an important role in the show. The origin of the monolith will be revealed in the show while Jaskier will be responsible for telling the story itself.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will feature the creation of the first Witcher and the events leading to the Conjunction of the Spheres. The series will star Sophia Brown, Michelle Yeoh, Laurence O'Fuarain, Lenny Henry, Mirren Mack, Nathaniel Curtis, Dylan Moran, and Jacob Collins-Levy.

Blood Origin will premiere on Netflix on December 25, 2022.
