The Witcher 3 is Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X

CD Projekt Red just gave us one hell of a surprise announcement. Not only will Cyberpunk 2077 be getting a free PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade but so will The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That's right, the publisher is bringing their most popular game to next-gen consoles, and those that already have PS4 and Xbox One copies of the title won't have to pay extra for it.

The announcement came from CD Projekt Red, letting fans know that The Witcher 3 would be coming to next-gen consoles with a range of visual and technical improvements. Unfortunately, they did not show us how much better this game will look, nor did they give a release date for this next-gen port but at least those that kept their PS4 and Xbox One copies have nothing to worry about.

It's kind of funny seeing this game get announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X since we just saw the game get degraded to work on Nintendo Switch. Don't get me wrong, it's a perfectly playable experience but when you compare it to the game on PS4, Xbox One, or PC, you're clearly playing the inferior version. Granted, having it on a handheld device is pretty awesome and CD Projekt Red put many other publishers to shame by fitting the whole game on a cartridge with no additional downloads needed.

Seeing CD Projekt Red fully-embrace these free next-gen upgrades for titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 is pretty darn great. Compare this to when the PS4 and Xbox One came out, neither of which supported backward-compatibility at the time and forcing players to buy "enhanced" or "complete editions" of games they already own, this is clearly a big improvement.

The Witcher 3 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
