The Winchesters’ Meg Donnelly Reveals Who between Supernatural’s Sam, Dean is Similar to their Mom

The Supernatural prequel The Winchesters will feature the story of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) parents, Mary (Meg Donnelly) and John (Drake Rodger). As the two shows definitely have a connection, Donnelly reveals her character’s link to her sons and who, between the two, is very much like her.

Dean will be narrating The Winchesters as his mom and dad navigate their lives in the fantasy drama. And by the looks of it, he’s the one who resembles his mother the most compared to Sam.

The Similarities Between Mary, Dean

In an interview with Screen Rant, Donnelly reveals Mary has more in common with Dean than Sam, opposing the beliefs that he’s more paralleled to his father.

She said,

“I just love Dean so much. I just think his humor and his quick wit is great. I mean, [the brothers'] whole dynamic is just so great, but I would definitely have to say Dean. He has such an edge to him, but he's so funny. I feel like Dean reminds me more of Mary. Kind of an edge, but still heartfelt at the same time.”

Dean, Mary’s Connection

The Winchester brothers were both greatly affected by their mother’s death, but Dean took her passing the hardest.

As the eldest, he had been with their mom longer. So, to prove that the two had more similarities, she completely resembled Dean when Mary was resurrected in Supernatural Season 12.

At the time, she developed a new bond with her two sons, but her independence and protective instincts seemed to be inherited by her firstborn.

However, it couldn’t be denied that Dean was often compared to his dad for their same taste in music and cars, love for hunting, and no-nonsense demeanor.

These similarities might have developed due to Dean’s admiration for his father. But despite it all, his heart was said to be like his mother's.

Alternatively, Sam had a lot in common with his mom and dad, though he was more like John deep down despite their tense relationship.

The Winchesters will premiere on October 11 on The CW.
