The Wheel of Time Star Rosamund Pike Shares Why She Turned Down Man of Steel Role

There was a time when Oscar-nominated actress and The Wheel of Time star Rosamund Pike was making a big decision between playing the role of Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel Wrath of the Titans and being part of the casting process of Man of Steel. She ended up choosing the former. Now, we know why.

Speaking with Collider, Pike was asked about the decision-making that she did back then between the two films and she explained why she chose to star in Wrath of the Titans instead of joining the DCEU. "I think I was very interested in the way that the director was approaching Wrath of the Titans," she said. "He was a South African guy called Jonathan Liebesman and he just had this sort of documentary approach to this big world and I thought he’d teach me stuff. You know, sometimes you pick roles based on what you think you can learn from them, and I thought there were things that I would learn from that, which I did, whether or not anyone knew about it. He taught me an awful lot about action, actually."

The actress also mentioned that some of her scenes in the film were cut, but she still calls her experience working in the film as invaluable. She said, "It was a great part, Andromeda. And I learnt an awful lot of sword skills. And all of these things, you never know when they’re gonna come back. And even just kind of imagining things, how to sell stuff that’s not in front of you, all of these skills that you don’t realize as a young actor you’re gonna need; how to believe something terrifying is right in front of you if you can’t see it and all that stuff that has to become a skill."

Pike didn't mention what role in Man of Steel she was considered for during the casting, but it is likely that she was in the running to play Lois Lane (which ended up being played by Amy Adams). Despite that, everything still went well for the actress. Sometime after she starred in Wrath of the Titans, she eventually got the coveted role of Amy Dunne where she ended up getting an Oscar nomination.

Later on, the skills that Pike learned during the filming of Wrath of the Titans eventually helped her as she took the main role of Moiraine in The Wheel of Time which requires her to do a lot of action sequences with skills similar to what she did in Wrath of the Titans.
