Wheel of Time Star Rosamund Pike 'Embarrassed' of Doom Movie Role

Rosamund Pike might be known for choosing truly memorable roles in her projects but that doesn't mean that the Wheel of Time star hasn't taken a stumble on one in the past. Gaming fans would remember her for appearing in the 2005 live-action adaptation of Doom. Interestingly, Pike isn't particularly proud of what she had done in the movie. In fact, she admits that she is "embarrassed" by her performance because she didn't understand the importance of the video game before filming!

In Doom, Rosamund Pike played Dr. Samantha 'Sam' Grimm, a scientist based on Mars who has been experimenting on ancient humanoids whose DNA contain the 24th chromosome pair. The experiment leads to mutated creatures that terrorize the research facility that needs to be taken out by a group of Marines, one of which happens to be Sam's twin brother Reaper.

Doom had everything, from cool special effects to a truly talented cast that included Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson (credited as The Rock in the film). However, the film barely lived up to the hype or the video game franchise. Not surprisingly, Pike isn't happy with how it turned out or how she handled the role. Speaking to Collider, she felt somehow responsible for the movie's failure.

"I feel partly to blame in that respect because I think I failed just through ignorance and innocence to understand, to fully get a picture of what Doom meant to fans at that point," Pike said. "I wasn't a gamer. I didn't understand. If I knew what I knew now, I would have dived right into all of that and got fully immersed in it like I do now. And I just didn't understand."

Pike might feel embarrassed whenever she remembers the movie but at least she has learned from her mistakes.

"I feel embarrassed, really. I feel embarrassed that I was sort of ignorant of what it meant and I didn't know how to go about finding out because the internet wasn't the place it is now for the fans to speak up. I wouldn't have known where to find them. I do now! In fact, I now have many friends who were massive fans of the game and I just wish I had known them then," she said.

Luckily, Rosamund Pike isn't making the same mistake with her new projects. It has been established that she made herself familiar with Robert Jordan's works before taking on the role of Moiraine Damodred in Amazon's Wheel of Time series. With that in mind, we can't wait to see her as the Aes Sedai in the highly anticipated show.

The Wheel of Time will premiere on Amazon Prime on November 19, 2021.
