The Walking Dead’s Season 7B Promo Gives the Future Hope

When it was teased that Rick was going to smile, it seemed to signal in a new era wherein he is no longer the whiny scared little boy that he was for the entire half of the seventh season.

But now, seeing a new teaser for The Walking Dead from AMC, we finally get to see him doing just that. The new promo teased by AMC's Twitter that the gang has bigger fish to catch—or I guess you could say bigger thing to protect.

Rick is also now looking towards the future and not just the group, which is supposedly a good thing. But there's something about that kind of mentality that has me a little worried yet again. I know drama and family are at the forefront of the Rick Grimes posse, but isn't this the same battle cry when they started attacking the Saviors or even those at Terminus?

IGN has a longer preview/recap, which brings together the reflections from the cast themselves of where the season is headed. We have to see all over again what's done to Rick, and in the words of actor Andrew Lincoln himself:

"It begins with a man being obedient and going out of his way and risking his life for Negan, in order to preserve life in Alexandria. But throughout, there are successions of moments that change his mind and makes him realize that this is an untenable situation."

I guess this teaser is a sort of explanation for why we had to suffer through that first act. And also a hint to the hope that the group supposedly has this time around.

But from the looks of it, the fight will be propelled by will more than numbers or weapons, something I'm not surprised by, seeing as how they pretty much gave everything to the Negan group.

Of course, it's not going to be so easy, and Negan's going to make sure of that. Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan shared:

"What we're building towards the end of [season] 7 is Rick trying to reemerge and find himself again, and Negan is still there with a big smile, waiting. We're getting to a breaking point."

The Walking Dead will be back on AMC on Feb. 12.
