The Walking Dead’s Negan Explains Why He's Sadistic

The Walking Dead

had hinted at the sadism of notorious Negan and his beloved Lucille the Bat.

And while viewers have been split on their reactions towards the final scene—that cliffhanger ending itself was sadistic—The Walking Dead Director Greg Nicotero has shared a glimpse of what goes on inside Negan's head.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nicotero revealed that there is actually a system when it comes to the Saviors' dealings.

"The Saviors, as sadistic as they may appear, they have a system that works for them. They've been doing this for a long time and they have a very large group they have a good thing going and the most interesting thing about them for me is there's mythos involved with them."

Perhaps what can get me interested in the Saviors and Negan is the fact that he may be another challenge to the legend that Rick has become. Nicotero shared that one of the reasons why Rick and the gang had been targeted is the fact that Rick himself has a reputation. And it seems that if Negan knows about you, then you're in big trouble.

The driving force behind Season 6 was the fact that Rick and company have started to show the dark side of survival. It had been a nice ride, for what it was. After the experience with The Governor, they decided that this time, they were taking a more active stance, instead of letting others take it from them.

From what Season 7 is shaping up to be, it's possible that Negan will be bringing a new conflict to the table, one of cohabiting with other communities in The Walking Dead. But from what presumably happens to one of them, that can't be easy.

The Walking Dead will be back with season 7 in October.
