Rick Grimes has finally been killed off in The Walking Dead, but that doesn't mean that the story is over. The series is set to make a huge 6-year time jump, and AMC has released images of the characters who are still with the show.

Arguably the freshest face in the photos is young Judith Grimes who is now being played by Cailer Fleming (Star Wars: The Force Awakens). Being born when the walkers already existed, it looks like she's been raised to look after herself during the apocalypse.

We also get a look at Jeffrey Dean Morgan who is returning as Negan. After being kept in captivity by Rick, he actually looks kind of cleaned up here. In the comics, Negan was also jailed, and he had grown out his hair and beard after years in a cell.

Producer Scott Gimple had this to say about the huge time jump mid-season:

"The last time jump was a jump, but it wasn't a huge amount of time. This jump is that quantum leap forward from the comic, and it's a whole new world. It was important to, especially after "All Out War," get some distance from that story and be in a whole new reality for Rick and the group. But that was an incredibly dramatic overture to "The New Beginning" that we saw in the comic, which is one of the terrific arcs of the comic…"

And it was so surprising and so intense, and so new. I loved that. I was so thrilled that Angela, Matt, and the writers came upon that for 9.05 — to see Rick's legacy and even Carl's legacy in action in that episode. I think it was unexpected. When it was pitched to me, I was like, 'Holy crap. That is it. That is so definitely it.' It got me excited."

We don't exactly know what lies ahead for the remaining survivors, but anyone who reads the comics will know that the adversaries that come after Negan are the Whisperers—humans who wear the skin of dead people and walk among them. They may not have buildings or guns, but they have a terrifying ability which allows them to take control of hordes of thousands and put them on any enemy they deem a threat.

Catch The Walking Dead 9 on Sundays on AMC.
