Ever since Elliot Page came out as transgender back in December 2020, fans of Netflix's hit series The Umbrella Academy have been wondering what it means for his character Vanya Hargreeves. Previous reports claim that the red and black streaming service has no plans of changing the character who is portrayed as a cisgender female in the show but in a stunning turn of events, it's now being revealed that Vanya will be taking on an entirely new identity for the upcoming third season.

Page himself dropped the bombshell on his social media accounts, unveiling Vanya's new sexual identity, a transgender man named Viktor Hargreeves. The character noticeably cut his iconic long hair and now sports a cleaner hairstyle. Check it out here:

If you've been following The Umbrella Academy comics, you would know that the character isn't part of the original story, and Elliot's real-life persona was obviously responsible for the change. Rumor has it that the title's creator and executive producer Gerard Way of rock ensemble My Chemical Romance went out of his way to change Vanya's identity to suit Elliot's sexual orientation which I think is a lovely gesture.

Earlier this month, The Umbrella Academy's official Instagram handle actually hinted that Vanya might be undergoing some drastic changes for Season 3 with the post descriptions removing she/her pronouns for Vanya. While we still don't know the overall plot for the next season, it's safe to assume that Viktor will be the focal point of the show.

The Umbrella Academy's third season is scheduled to premiere this June on Netflix.
