The Scarif Update Will be the Last for Star Wars Battlefront II

It's no mystery that Star Wars Battlefront II had started with one of the worst launches in gaming history, but DICE had managed to do a complete 180 flip by the launch of the Celebration Edition at the beginning of the year. The sad news is, it looks like the developers are moving on from the game, and the Scarif Update will be the last.

Creative director Dennis Brannvall had said that DICE has ‘completed their vision' for Star Wars Battlefront II after two years of support, and they're now moving on to a new Battlefield game set to come out in 2021. Brannvall also had this to say about the end:

Looking beyond April, we're transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future. This means that we're moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we're looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come.

No doubt, a lot of fans are bummed to hear about this. The game had just gotten renewed interest and is in such a good place now. It would be a shame for DICE to suddenly pull out now that Battlefront II is getting more attention.

If anything, I'm thinking that Battlefront II will now be a testing ground for a far more superior Battlefront III. We don't know when that will ever happen, but I have a feeling that it's going to launch sometime alongside the next Star Wars movie which is set to release in 2022.

For now, enjoy Star Wars Battlefront II on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
