We already know that Lucifer is showing up in The Sandman and will be played by Gwendoline Christie. However, some people are still unconvinced about the Game of Thrones actor playing the fallen angel in the Netflix series. Nevertheless, Neil Gaiman is standing by the casting decision and is firing back at naysayers.

Fans just got to see some awesome footage of Lucifer in The Sandman, thanks to the teaser for Netflix Geeked Week 2022. The teaser ends with a clip from the series where Lucifer greets Dream in hell. Most people are loving it considering that Gwendoline Christie looks ethereal in the footage. However, others are claiming that the show made drastic changes to the character.

Not surprisingly, Neil Gaiman is responding directly to these comments and shooting down any negativity aimed toward Christie. For instance, the Good Omens author retweeted a post with a hilarious comment.

"How exactly has the character changed? Is it the penis? It’s okay. Lucifer in the comics didn’t have a penis, and I don’t believe Gwendoline Christie has one either. The dialogue’s the same… it’s that Gwendoline’s taller than the Lucifer in the Sandman comics, isn’t it?" Gaiman wrote.

It's understandable why some people weren't pleased with the casting since there was already an existing Lucifer on TV who is played by Tom Ellis. Nevertheless, it looks like the series is moving forward with a new Lucifer.

The Sandman is one of the most highly anticipated projects in the past decades and people are undoubtedly excited that it is finally getting released this year. With that in mind, we're happy with the Lucifer we will be getting in the series.

The Sandman also stars Tom Sturridge, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Jenna Coleman, Niamh Walsh, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Kyo Ra, Stephen Fry, Razane Jammal, Sandra James Young, and Patton Oswalt. The series has not yet been given an official release date.
