The Russos Think A Secret Wars Movie Would Be A Great Way Of Introducing The X-Men

Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 might both promise significant changes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox and its assets also promise a much, much bigger future for the franchise.

The sale opens up so many opportunities for Marvel, allowing for the return of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the other mutants whose film rights belong to Fox.

While Marvel still has to wait a few more months till the Fox acquisition sees completion, the Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already been thinking of possible films that could help bring the Avengers, the Guardians, and the mutants all together.

Speaking in a recent interview with the French Website Linternaute (via Comic Book), the Russo brothers say that it'd certainly be interesting to explore a Secret Wars adaptation once Disney completes its Fox acquisition.

"If Disney's takeover of Fox goes through, there's a lot more characters to work with all of a sudden, it might be interesting to do something like Secret Wars... " the two filmmakers suggest.

For those who aren't that familiar with the series, the Secret Wars comic book storyline has the various realities of Marvel's multiverse colliding together to start what seems like an apocalypse. Though the crossover storyline is extremely complex, it allows Marvel to introduce Fox's mutants without causing problems for MCU.

Of course, while the sound of a Secret Wars film sounds exciting, Marvel still has a long way to go till it actually starts thinking of merging the X-Men into the MCU. We'll just have to cross our fingers and wait and see.

Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas April 27.
