The Rock's Black Adam Movie Hires Alvin And The Chipmunks And Due Date Writer

Though Warner Bros is steadily moving forward with their Shazam! movie, news has it that the Rock, who is set to play Captain Marvel's nemesis Black Adam in the DCEU, won't be in that film. Instead, he'll be starring in his own film, and he'll eventually end up clashing with Captain Marvel in a crossover movie down the line. Black Adam has reportedly found its screenwriter, and we should get some more updates on the film from this point on.

According to the Tracking Board, screenwriter Adam Szytkiel has been hired to write the Black Adam spinoff. Other movies included in his credit are entries in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Alvin and the Chipmunk franchises as well as the Robert Downey Jr.-led comedy Due Date. He's also the creator of NBC's sitcom Undateable.

Though some fans may scoff at his track record, they should also remember that the Russo Brothers, who are currently directing the next two Avengers movies, worked on comedy series Community before they got the directing gig for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Chances are, this film will end up great. Jon Favreau was only known for Elf and Zathura before he went on to work for Iron Man. What's really weird is, while DC has hired a kids movie writer to make a film centered on a villain, they've hired a horror movie specialist to direct the kids movie Shazam! This should make for an interesting clash in the future.

No release date has been set for Black Adam, but Shazam! is set to come out April of 2019.
